We’ll Take Care of the Details.
There’s already enough to think about right now. Finding a place for everyone to gather shouldn’t add to it.
Tell us approximately how many people you’re expecting and what you have in mind. We’ll help with the room, the food, the drinks, the timing and the setup, so when family and friends arrive, you can simply be with them.
One less thing for your family to worry about.

What You’ll Want to Know.
We know you may be planning on short notice. Here are answers to some of the questions families ask us most.
- Holding a date
- Send us the date, roughly how many people, and what time the service finishes. We will come back with what is open and what it would cost a head. Two of the families below booked with only a few days to spare.
- When we are open
- Tuesday through Sunday, from 11:30 in the morning. We are closed on Mondays. If Monday is the day you have been given, tell us anyway and we will see what can be done.
- The room
- Yours alone, with the door closed. The Library seats 65 and the Britannia Room seats 32.
- Guests arriving at different times
- A buffet handles it best. It stays out and is kept topped up, so somebody arriving after the others still sits down to a hot meal.
- How long you have
- An hour in the room beforehand to set it up, then three hours with your guests.
- Parking
- On site and free, so nobody has to go looking for a space.
- What it costs
- Menus start at $29 a guest, and the price per person is agreed before the day. There is no room fee. A $100 deposit holds the date and comes straight off the final bill.
- Who you deal with
- Zoe, our event coordinator, from the first email through to the day itself. You will not have to explain it twice.
A 20% service charge applies and taxes are folded into your quote, so the figure you agree beforehand is the figure you can plan around.

A Comfortable Place to Gather.
Whether you're expecting immediate family or a larger group of friends and loved ones, we'll help you find a private space that feels right for the occasion.
If Your Gathering Is Larger
Above sixty-five, we have another private room downstairs that seats ninety. It is stone-walled and candlelit, which suits an evening rather better than the middle of the day, so ask Zoe about it and she will tell you honestly whether it suits your family.
Kind Words From Families Who Gathered Here.
Each of these was written by the person who did the organising.
“Our family needed to plan and execute a funeral luncheon with only a few days to spare. The events team at The Crown were so responsive and helpful and accommodating. The room was spacious and classy, the food and beers were excellent, and all our guests had nothing but great things to say. It was such smooth sailing during a tough time for our family--much appreciated.”
“I needed to find a location for a post-funeral luncheon on short notice. I had been to the Crown Tavern several times so when I saw their link about catering services I decided to reach out. Zoe, the Event Coordinator, was so helpful and accommodating with what I was looking for, helping me to work within a time frame and budget/dietary restrictions that fit my needs. She was so easy to work with and understood exactly what I was looking for. When I arrived at my event the room was ready and the servers approached me right away to make sure things were set up as I had wanted. They were so helpful, efficient, and friendly throughout the event and made me and my guests feel very comfortable. The food was noteworthy—so delicious! Everything looked fresh and appealing. I got many complements from my guests on the quality of all the offerings. Based on my experience, I would not hesitate to book another event at The Crown Tavern, and will be sure to recommend them to any friends or family needing to plan a catering event.”
“We recently held a funeral banquet at Crown Tavern, and I want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care and service we received during such a tender time. From the moment we arrived, the staff showed genuine compassion and professionalism, helping us feel supported and at ease. The private dining space was beautifully arranged—elegant, quiet, and perfect for reflection and remembrance. The food was outstanding: comforting, flavorful, and served promptly. Many of our guests commented on how much they appreciated the warm atmosphere and the attention to detail. What stood out most was the staff’s sensitivity. They anticipated our needs without being intrusive, allowing us to focus on honoring our loved one. It’s rare to find a venue that balances grace and hospitality so well. Thank you to everyone at Crown Tavern for helping us create a meaningful and dignified gathering. Your kindness will not be forgotten.”
“We held a brunch for friends and family after attending a funeral for a family member. When searching for a venue that could include anywhere from 20 to 30 people I reached out to an event manager by email. We had a timely exchange of questions and answers including the menu options and room accessibility. Everything was handled by email and the process, including changes from the initial plan, went smoothly. The event itself went exactly as planned. The venue was well coordinated, the staff made sure that everything went as planned. The food was quite good and the buffet service timely and invisible. There was plenty of food for everyone. When the event was finished as staff member had the bill prepared. Overall the experience was very good and I will consider The Crown for future events.”
“We just had my father’s funeral luncheon at The Crown Tavern. Food was perfect, ambiance was spot on and the service was exceptional. Thank you Zoe and team for exceeding my expectations. Everyone that attended loved it!”
“I planned a Celebration of Life for my husband that recently passed away. The ease of booking, options of food/beverages/desserts were exceptional. We had previously eaten there and many friends said they have as well and there was no doubt that everything would turn out well, as it did!”
Easy to Find. Easy to Park.
With family and friends often arriving from different directions, we’ve tried to make getting here the easy part. The Crown is conveniently located in Glen Mills, on Route 202, with onsite parking waiting for your guests.
The mailing address says Glen Mills; the tavern itself sits in Concord Township, Delaware County, which is where the Crown in Concord name comes from. That puts us a short drive from Concordville, Chadds Ford, Garnet Valley, Media, West Chester and Wilmington, Delaware.
Pass the address on with the order of service if that is easier. The room will be open and waiting when people get here.

A Few Things You May Be Wondering
How quickly can you arrange a gathering?
Usually faster than people expect. Send us the date, roughly how many people, and what time the service finishes, and we will come back with what is open and what it would cost a head. Two of the families whose words appear on this page booked with only a few days to spare, so short notice is not a problem. Nothing is held until you are ready to say yes.
Is a repast the same thing as a funeral luncheon?
Yes. Repast, funeral luncheon, memorial gathering, celebration of life... families use different words for the same afternoon, and we arrange them all the same way. Tell us what you are planning in your own words and we will help you work out the rest.
What happens after we get in touch?
Zoe, our event coordinator, will reach out. She will talk through the room, the food, the timing and anything particular you have in mind, and send you a quote with the price per person on it. From there she looks after the arrangements, so you are not repeating yourself to different people. If it is easier to talk than to type, call (610) 361-9800 and ask for her.
How many people can you seat, and can we have a room to ourselves?
Yes, the room is yours alone with the door closed. The Library seats 65 and suits a larger gathering of family and friends; the Britannia Room seats 32 and suits a smaller one. If you are expecting more than sixty-five, we have another private room downstairs that seats ninety... ask Zoe about that one. You get an hour in the room beforehand to set it up and three hours with your guests.
Is the price per person set in advance?
Yes. Every event menu is prix fixe, meaning a set price per person agreed before the day, whether you choose a buffet or a plated meal, so there is nothing to work out afterwards. Menus start at $29 a guest. A 20% service charge applies and taxes are folded into the quote. There is no room fee, no linen fee and no credit-card fee, and a $100 deposit holds the date and comes straight off the final bill.
Can we show a slideshow of photographs?
In the Library, yes. It has a screen on the wall you are welcome to use, and there is a microphone if somebody would like to speak to the room. Bring whatever you would like to play it from and we will help you get it set up during your hour beforehand. The Britannia Room does not have a screen, so if a slideshow matters to you, tell Zoe when you inquire and she will put you in the Library.
Can we bring photographs, flowers or other mementos?
Please do. It is your room, so photographs, flowers, a memory board or an urn are all welcome, and the hour before your guests arrive is there for exactly this. If somebody would like to say a few words, mention it beforehand and we will make sure the room is quiet and the servers are out of the way when the time comes.
Can you work around dietary needs, and may we bring a cake?
Yes to both. Send us any allergies or anything a guest cannot eat along with your final numbers and the kitchen builds around them. You are welcome to bring a cake or a dessert from home as well, and there is no charge for cutting it or serving it. If you would rather we handled dessert, that can go on your menu instead.
Is there parking, and what about guests who find stairs difficult?
There is parking on site at our Glen Mills location and it is free, so nobody arrives having circled for a space. If anyone in your party has trouble with stairs or needs a room that is easier to reach, tell Zoe when you inquire and she will take it into account when she suggests where to put you.
